Signing of the option agreement for a sustainable residential building on haveneiland ijburg

Healthcare provider Amstelring, architect SeARCH, sustainability specialist DGMR and healthcare real estate investor Apollo Zorgvastgoedfonds are proud to have won the tender issued by the municipality of Amsterdam for the development of a sustainable residential care building called Eyckstaete on Haveneiland IJburg. Eyckstaete will be the first residential building with a timber construction in IJburg offering sustainable housing for seniors with a need of (health)care and support.

This exceptional residential property is designed to house, a mix of senior citizens (possibly with care at home), people with more severe healthcare needs and for employees of Amstelring. Additionally the property will have collective spaces to stimulate integration with the neighbourhood. The circular building provides the entrance to Haveneiland with a new look and thanks to the transparent facade, the internal life will become visible. Bjarne Mastenbroek, architect of SeARCH: “It is fantastic that the municipality of Amsterdam offers the opportunity in tenders to construct circular timber based buildings.”

Residential property consist out of linked prefab units
The property consists out of linked wooden prefab units. The apartments are offered to seniors who prefer to live independently with care services available and people with more complex healthcare needs. In Amsterdam the need for housing for this group is rapidly growing. “This concept is in line with our vision, where care moves along with the phases of a senior’s life. First, we provide care for people at home, in order for them to continue living independently for as long as possible. If more complex healthcare is required, this care is also provided in Eyckstaete. The demand for these initiatives are desperately needed, since the number of elderly people with (complex) care needs is increasing sharply, ” said Inge Borghuis, Amstelring Board of Directors.

Ground floor with facilities and green courtyard
The ground floor includes facilities that are related to the target group of the apartments, but also facilities that benefit the neighbourhood. This in order to stimulate the interaction and connection between the residents and the neighbourhood. The central courtyard is accessible via the passage of the ground floor; an important connecting factor between residents of Eyckstaete and residents in the surrounding buildings. It will be a place for relaxation, meeting and enjoying nature.

Sustainability
It is a circular and energy-neutral building that also meets our own sustainability ambitions and those of the Municipality of Amsterdam. Michel van Oostvoorn, Apollo Healthcare Property Fund: “We are very pleased with the collaboration with SeARCH, DGMR and Amstelring for realizing this very sustainable residential building for seniors and / or people with complex healthcare needs at a beautiful and unique location in Amsterdam.”
