Healthcare organization Amstelring and  Apollo Healthcare Property Fund have signed a major lease agreement for the realization of 64 apartments for seniors in the sustainable residential care complex VanIJburg. This innovative complex will be a home for seniors with different needs and contribute to a connection with the neighborhood.

Unique concept in sustainable wooden residential building

VanIJburg is the first wooden residential building on IJburg designed specifically for seniors in need of care and support. This circular building combines different forms of living: from independent senior housing with (heavy) care at home, to apartments for people with more intensive care needs. In addition, the complex also provides housing for care workers so that they can live close to their work.

Connection with the neighborhood

In addition to the housing, VanIJburg features collective spaces for residents. The plinth of the building includes spaces for care and welfare facilities. Through a passageway in the plinth, both residents and neighbors can reach the courtyard garden. A place that connects the residents of the complex and the surrounding neighborhood.

A new entrance for Haveneiland

VanIJburg not only houses the elderly, but also forms a new, visible entrance to Haveneiland. Thanks to the transparent facade, the activities and life within the building become visible to the surroundings, contributing to the open and inviting atmosphere of the complex.

Need for care housing grows

The demand for care housing is growing rapidly in Amsterdam. Jeroen Lambiks, member of Amstelring’s Board of Directors, emphasizes, “This project fits perfectly within our vision of providing customized care, where the elderly can continue to live independently for as long as possible. For those who need more care, we also offer 24/7 intensive care in a protected environment. Both options are available in VanIJburg, and given the increasing demand for care, this is much needed.”

Completion in 2025

Construction of VanIJburg has already started and completion is scheduled for the fall of 2025. Michel van Oostvoorn, director of acquisition and management at Apollo Healthcare Property Fund, comments: “We are delighted to have been able to develop this project, in close cooperation with Amstelring and the municipality of Amsterdam. The sustainable design of this building, realized by architectural firm SeARCH, responds to the current and future needs of seniors in the city.”
